While an IFAK is for immediate life-saving interventions, a Team Medic's aid bag is for sustained casualty care. The usage scenario is to provide advanced medical support until evacuation to a higher level of care is possible. This bag is much more comprehensive.
It contains multiples of IFAK components (TQs, gauze, chest seals), plus additional equipment like:
Airway Management: More NPAs, oral airways, bag valve mask (BVM).
IV/IO Access: Fluids and kits for administration to treat shock.
** Medications:** Pain management, antibiotics.
Additional Bandaging: Israeli bandages, triangular bandages, burn dressings.
Tools: Shears, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, thermometers.
The efficacy is to stabilize multiple casualties for a longer duration. Choosing the contents requires extensive medical training and is based on the mission's anticipated injuries and the medic's scope of practice. It's a portable emergency room, and its contents are a lifeline for the entire team.
