Ultra-Thin & Flexible Materials: Covert armor relies on the latest flexible, multi-threat materials. These are often layers of unidirectional (UD) or woven Aramid or polyethylene sheets that are incredibly thin and supple, allowing them to bend and move with the body without printing (showing visible outlines) under clothing.
Multi-Threat Protection: The focus is often on protection against the most common street threats: handguns and edged weapons. These concealable panels are rated for threats like 9mm, .40 S&W, and .44 Magnum, while also incorporating stab-resistant (Spike) protection, all in a package less than 1/4 inch thick.
Cover Fabrics: The outer cover of the armor panel is designed for comfort against the skin and to minimize noise (e.g., rustling). It's typically made from a soft, breathable, and moisture-wicking fabric like cotton or polyester blend, unlike the rugged cordura nylon used in overt carriers.
Anatomically Contoured Design: Covert panels are often subtly pre-curved to fit the torso's natural shape more comfortably. This enhances concealment by preventing the corners from poking out and improves wearability for long durations, which is crucial for operational effectiveness.
